Font Confidentiality Charter
Your fonts stay yours.
Thirteen commitments from U+ TYPE on the fonts, sources and histories you put in Fontra Hive.
Version of 21 October 2026. This translation is provided for convenience; the French version prevails.
It covers Content: the fonts, sources, drawings, histories, snapshots, branches, comments and files you put in Fontra Hive. Personal data of accounts is covered by the Privacy Policy.
This charter is for information: where it differs from the Terms of Use, the Terms of Sale or the Data Processing Agreement, those documents prevail (see 13).
1Your fonts stay yours
Content belongs to its authors or rights holders. U+ TYPE acquires no rights over it. The right of use you grant us is limited to the duration and needs of the service.
2One use only: running the service
We store Content, show it to the people you invite, convert it, compile it, back it up, export it and send it to a Git repository you connect, at your request. We do not read it to derive statistics, samples, demos or advertising.
3No artificial intelligence
No Content is used to train, evaluate or improve an artificial-intelligence model, whether by U+ TYPE or by anyone else. We do not sell, rent or transfer any Content.
4Confidentiality
All Content is treated as confidential information, especially unreleased projects. We do not mention your projects, typeface family names or clients without your written consent. People at U+ TYPE and at our processors who can access Content are bound to secrecy. This commitment lasts for the whole contract and five years after it ends.
5No distribution
A project is visible only to the people its owner or admins invite, with the role they choose. Fontra Hive has no public links and no gallery.
6Staff access, in three cases only
Someone at U+ TYPE opens a project's content only:
- at the request of its owner or of a project admin, to help them;
- when strictly necessary for the security or integrity of the service (a damaged repository, an incident, a restore from backup);
- under a legal obligation or court order. We tell you, unless the law forbids it.
Automated processing (backups, conversion, compilation) involves no human reading. Only named people have technical access to the servers; today, the president of U+ TYPE.
7Access log
Every human access to a project's content is recorded in a log before the project is opened: date, person, project, reason. The project owner can get the extract on request. The log is kept for one year.
8Hosted in Europe, encrypted connections
- Servers and database at Scaleway in Paris.
- An encrypted backup every night in Amsterdam (the Netherlands), kept for 30 days.
- No Content leaves the European Union, except when you connect a project to a Git repository: that project's Content then goes, at your request, to the Git host you chose (GitHub, for instance), which may store it outside the EU under its own terms. That host is not our processor. Disconnecting the repository stops it (details).
- Encrypted connections (HTTPS), database on a private network, passwords stored in hashed form.
9Processors known in advance
Today, two processors have access to data: Scaleway SAS (Paris), for hosting, the database, backups and email delivery; and Stripe, for billing, which receives no Content. Before adding a processor with access to Content, we tell you 15 days in advance. If you object, you may cancel free of charge.
10Incidents: you are told within 72 hours
If unauthorized access, loss or leak affects your Content, we inform the owners concerned as soon as possible after discovering it. We tell them what we know, what we have done and what we recommend. If personal data is affected, we also notify the CNIL.
11Reversibility
- You can download your projects at any time in open formats: .fontra, designspace + UFO, compiled fonts.
- On request, we hand over a project's full git repository, with its whole history.
- A permanent deletion removes the project from the service; it disappears from backups within 30 days.
- When a subscription ends, nothing is deleted: projects become read-only and stay downloadable.
12Try Fontra: nothing leaves your browser
On try.fontrahive.com, the fonts you open are read, edited and exported in your browser. They are not sent to our servers, which only receive ordinary page requests.
13Changes to this charter
We may strengthen these commitments at any time. Any other change is emailed to you 30 days before it takes effect.
The Charter is intended to inform you about U+ TYPE's practices regarding Content. It has no contractual value of its own and creates, by itself, no right or obligation distinct from those already provided for by the Terms of Use (CGU), the Terms of Sale (CGV) or, for client organizations, schools and foundries, by the Data Processing Agreement (DPA). Where the wording of this Charter and of the other contractual documents differ, those other contractual documents prevail.
